Hurricane Nate approaching US Gulf Coast

The tropical storm strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane and is heading towards the US where it is forecasted to hit Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi. The storm wreaked havoc as it struck Central America and claimed the lives of at least 25 people.

The authorities in Mississippi and Louisiana declared a state of emergency after Tropical Storm Nate turned into a Category 1 hurricane as it traveled north. The storm is making its way towards the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to reach the US later today.

Hurricane Nate boasts winds as fast as 100 km/h and has already claimed the lives of at least 25 people in Central America. It is currently about 675 km (420 miles) away from the US Gulf Coast and is forecasted to strike the states of Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi.

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu emphasized that the city remains under a state of emergency. Nevertheless, Landrieu reassured that the city “has been through this many, many times before and we are ready for whatever Nate brings our way.”
