Japanese ice rink filled with frozen sea creatures shut downThe management of a Japanese amusement park thought it came up with a new, exciting gimmick. However, the response received from the public was the opposite of what it expected. Shortly after unveiling the new attraction, the park announced it would close down the ice-skating rink with 5,000 frozen fish, crabs and other sea creatures.
Space World in Kitakyushu, south-west Japan, angered the public this week when it opened its new rink made of ice and thousands of fish, crabs and newts, receiving calls to close the attraction immediately.
The amusement park announced this new rink as part of its winter attraction called Ice Aquarium. The park proudly advertised the attraction calling it "the first of its kind" on their Facebook page and posting pictures of the frozen sea life.

An online campaign was quickly started to close the rink. Space World's Facebook page was filled with complaints and angry comments. One user called the attraction "an appalling lack of morality" while another said the park was "disrespectful of life."
In light of the public outcry, the park's management decided to close the rink and issued a statement. "We deeply apologize to people who felt uncomfortable about the Ice Aquarium event," it said in a statement. "As a result, we have stopped the event from today."
A spokesperson for Space World told the Japanese media that the fish were already dead when they were bought, "Misunderstandings spread on the Internet that the fish were frozen while they were still alive but that was not the case."
