Moscow and Tehran negotiating $10 billion arms deal

A senior-level Russian official informed reporters that talks are currently underway with Tehran in regards to a major arms deal worth $10 billion. According to the official, Moscow is interested in selling the Iranian government tanks, artillery systems, planes and helicopters.

The Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported today (Monday) that Russia and Iran are in the midst of discussing a large arms deal worth $10 billion. According to the report, Moscow is interested in selling Iran tanks, artillery systems, planes and helicopters.

Head of the defense and security committee in the Russian Federation Council Viktor Ozerov informed the press about the potential deal. The negotiations took place during a Russian parliamentary visit to Tehran.

Last week, JOL reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Javid Zarif said following Donald Trump’s presidential victory: “What interests us is that the elected president will respect the nuclear agreement.”

In addition, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said following Trump’s victory: "The historic agreement with world powers cannot be undone by a single government."
