An elderly Israeli couple was arrested in Thailand earlier this week for possessing an electronic cigarette. They were forced to pay a fine totaling about $1,200.
Following the unusual incident, the Israeli consulate in Thailand looked into the issue and found that the use of e-cigarettes had been outlawed in the country in 2014.
In light of this new revelation, the Israeli Foreign Ministry on Thursday issued a travel alert, warning Israeli travelers not to bring e-cigarettes into Thailand. "A person who is found violating this law might be fined, tried and jailed," the ministry said.
