Sessions’ announcement came following the recent storm surrounding the fact that he hid his meeting with the Russian ambassador to the US during his confirmation hearing.
Yesterday evening (Thursday), US Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that he is recusing himself from investigations concerning Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. The announcement came the day after JOL reported that Sessions failed to disclose his two meetings with Russian Ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak during his confirmation hearing in the US Senate, causing lawmakers to claim that Sessions lied under oath.
During his confirmation hearing, Sessions was asked about the subject to which he replied that he had no connection with the Russians. Furthermore, during a press conference that was held yesterday, Sessions admitted that he should have said that he met with the Russian ambassador during his confirmation hearing.
Earlier on Thursday, US President Donald Trump addressed the storm surrounding Sessions stating that he has full confidence in him regarding the matter. Trump stated this to journalists while preparing for a speech concerning national security.
