The Nevada resident’s home is currently being searched by police. According to reports, Paddock was known to local law enforcement and had no known terrorist connections.
The local police department believes that Marilou Danley, who is a person of interest, lived in Paddock’s home with him. Danley was located by police during a massive manhunt. Sheriff Joseph Lombardo of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department had stated early Monday morning that Paddock was eliminated by police in the 32nd-floor hotel room from where he opened fire but later reports revealed that he shot himself before police arrived. Inside the hotel room, eight firearms were discovered.
Following the shooting, US President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter: “My warmest condolences and sympathies to the victims and families of the terrible Las Vegas shooting. God bless you!”
The Israeli Foreign Affairs Ministry stated that all attempts to contact 12 Israelis in Las Vegas have failed. The ministry stressed that while the Israelis were in Las Vegas at the time of the shooting and have yet to establish contact with their families following it, there is no concrete information that suggests that they are among the victims of the attack.
According to the local authorities, the shooting began shortly after 10:00 pm. The shooter was targeting the thousands of people who were attending a music festival across the street from the hotel. “Right now, we believe it’s a solo act, a lone wolf attacker,” Lombardo added.
Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman tweeted regarding the shooting, which has been deemed the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history: “Pray for Las Vegas, thank you to all the first responders out there now.”
