An unusual incident occurred today (Monday) in Nepal when a leopard was found running along the runway at the Kathmandu airport. The elusive predator forced local authorities to shut down the country’s only airport, leading to many flight delays and cancellations.

A spokesperson from the airport stated that the security staff along with nature organization representatives are conducting searches after the leopard, who is most likely hiding inside the sewage system. “We shut down the airport for half an hour after a pilot reported seeing the animal, but the leopard has not been found yet,” the spokesperson said.

Kathmandu’s airport is adjacent to many forests and reports have been received in the past regarding leopards that mistakenly roamed around the city.
