London police have arrested an 18-year-old man suspected of being involved in Friday’s subway bombing, which injured 29 people. The police described the arrest as “significant." Meanwhile, hundreds of British soldiers have been deployed to key locations throughout the UK so that the police can focus on investigating the terror attack. After ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, British Prime Minister Theresa May announced that the country’s terror threat level has been raised from “severe” to “critical.”
“For this period, military personnel will replace police officers on guard at certain protected sites which are not accessible to the public,” May said during a televised speech. “The public will see more armed police on the transport network and on our streets providing extra protection.”
The homemade bomb used in the attack apparently did not work as planned as it only partially exploded. Yesterday’s bombing was the fifth terror attack in Britain since the beginning of 2017. According to Mark Rowley, Britain’s highest-ranking counter-terrorism officer, the investigation has been advancing very well. He added that the police are “chasing down suspects.”
Yesterday, JOL News reported that the authorities in Britain have identified the suspect who planted the improvised bomb on a subway train, according to Sky News. London Mayor Sadiq Khan said in a statement that his city will not be defeated by terrorists. “As London has proven again and again, we will never be intimidated or defeated by terrorism,” he said. “Our city utterly condemns the hideous individuals who attempt to use terror to harm us and destroy our way of life.”
