At Buckingham Palace, an emergency meeting took place between all of the queen’s top advisors, the Daily Mail reported. Following this meeting, Buckingham Palace announced that Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth, is retiring from public life. Philip, who will be 96 in the summer, cannot partake in public activities anymore due to his advanced age and health condition.

It was written that Prince Philip will participate in public activities until August but this will change starting in August, although he could still choose whether to participate in public events from time to time. Buckingham Palace stressed that Queen Elizabeth, who is age 91, will continue to serve her country in her present position and will stand behind her commitments.

About a half a year ago, Queen Elizabeth did not show up for a Christmas event due to illness. That was the first time in 90 years that no member of the royal family attended the traditional Christmas ceremony.
