US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the Iran nuclear deal and the crisis with North Korea in a phone call on Thursday.

The White House said that Trump stressed to Macron “that Iran must stop its destabilizing activity in the region.” Macron emphasized the importance of remaining committed to the deal during the conversation, according to Reuters.

Regarding North Korea, the White House stated that the two leaders discussed the need to pressure Pyongyang into casting aside its nuclear program. On Saturday, Trump told reporters that he is open to talks with North Korea. “Sure, I always believe in talking,” Trump said. “But we have a very firm stance. Look, our stance, you know what it is. We’re very firm. But I would be, absolutely I would do that. I don't have a problem with that at all.”

Earlier this week, it was reported that Trump is expected to extend the nuclear deal-linked economic sanctions relief for Iran. The Associated Press cited six different sources who said that Trump will prolong the sanctions relief for Iran by Friday – the deadline. However, it seems that Trump will impose sanctions on private individuals and businesses instead.
