Major commercial companies under pressure to sever ties with the NRA

Several commercial companies have announced the termination of ties with the National Rifle Association in response to the Parkland shooting in which 17 people were murdered.

In light of the recent Parkland shooting, in which 17 people were murdered, several companies and organizations have publicly renounced their partnership with the National Rifle Association (NRA).

Several companies including Delta Airlines, Hertz and MetLife have ended their contracts and cooperation with the NRA. These decisions come after students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, the Parkland high school where the shooting took place, marched to the state capitol in Tallahassee to protest for gun control last Wednesday.

The NRA was in cooperation with these companies, providing deals and discounts for members. The NRA has responded to the widespread severing of ties by tweeting, “Let it be absolutely clear. The loss of a discount will neither scare nor distract one single NRA member from our mission to stand and defend the individual freedoms that have always made America the greatest nation in the world.”

Since the Parkland shooting was the 18th school shooting since January 1, 2018, many companies are experiencing pressure to sever ties. Companies such as Google, Amazon and Apple have been approached and encouraged to sever ties with the NRA.
