Germany: Merkel’s party takes 2nd in Berlin local elections

The political party of the German Chancellor came in second place in the Berlin local elections, which means that it will probably lose its influence in the local coalition in the most important state in Germany.

Another round of the local elections in Germany was conducted yesterday (Sunday). German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) came in second place in the most important state in all of Germany, Berlin.

The support for the CDU plummeted more than 5 percent, a dramatic loss that should worry Merkel and her party members. This will most likely result in the CDU losing its influence in the Berlin local coalition. The Berlin state is the most important and most influential one in Germany.

As reported by JOL earlier this month, the Alternative for Germany (AFD), the country’s far right-wing political party, came in second place in the local elections in Merkel’s home state. The CDU came in third.
