Less than a month after Trump did the same, US Vice President Mike Pence hired a private attorney to represent him in the Russia investigation.

According to one of Pence’s assistants, this is not something new as he has been interviewing possible candidates for several weeks. Pence retained the services of former Attorney General of Virginia Richard Cullen.

According to the report first published by The Washington Post, Pence retained Cullen to assist him in dealing with both the congressional committee that is investigating Russia’s possible interference in the presidential election and Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating possible ties between Trump’s campaign and Russia.

“The vice president is focused entirely on his duties and promoting the president's agenda,” said Pence’s Director of Communications Jarrod Agen. “And looks forward to a swift conclusion of this matter.”

According to the report, Mueller is also investigating the businesses and finances of Trump’s senior-level adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner. The FBI and other Federal prosecutors are also investigating the financials of a number of Trump’s associates including Michael Flynn, Paul Manafort and Carter Page.
