Myanmar: At least 32 people killed in coordinated Muslim rebel attackA deadly attack was launched by Muslim militants in the state of Rakhine in Myanmar only hours after the Rakhine Advisory Commission published its recommendations. At least 32 were killed in the attacks.
During the night (Friday), at least 32 people were killed in Myanmar after Muslim militants simultaneously attacked a number of police outposts in the north-western area of the country. It was also reported that an improvised explosive device was used in 1 of the attacks.
The attack took place in the divided state of Rakhine only hours after the Rakhine Advisory Commission, led by former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, submitted its report and recommendations. According to AP News Agency, the attack was especially times to follow the report, which warned against more violence and radicalization.
The state of Rakhine is divided between a minority of Rohingya Muslims and a majority of Buddhists. Tens of thousands of Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh after claiming to be persecuted.
