The US Army is reportedly looking into the death of US Army Staff Sgt. Logan J. Melgar. The 34-year-old Green Beret’s body was found on a base in Mali in June. According to the New York Times, two US Navy SEAL Team 6 commandos are being questioned about their possible involvement in his death.

Senior US Army officials told CNN that Melgar’s death was caused by strangulation. Melgar’s commanders suspected immediately that he died of unnatural causes and brought in a special investigator. In September, the US Army handed the investigation over to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

The sources refused to comment on the possible motive for the suspected murder. However, there are speculations about a dispute between Melgar and the commandos. It is also possible that Melgar uncovered some illegal activity in which the commandos were involved.

Melgar’s wife has been notified about the manner of her husband’s death. “I ask for privacy during this time -- I hope that you will allow me to tell my story when I'm ready,” she told CNN.
