New York police officers were rushed to the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center on Friday after receiving a report about an active shooter. A female doctor was killed and six other people were injured. Five of them are in critical condition. According to reports, the suspect, who killed himself at the scene with his gun, worked as a doctor at the hospital before he had to resign a few years ago due to sexual harassment complaints.

The shooter, Henry Bello, was wearing a white lab coat under which he was hiding his firearm. An NYPD official told reporters that Bello apparently attempted to set himself on fire, causing the fire alarm system to go off, before he shot himself.

A law enforcement official in New York confirmed that Bello is listed as a family doctor on the hospital’s website and that police reports show that there is a history of sexual harassment complaints against the doctor. In 2004, he was arrested after a woman claimed that he sexually attacked her. In 2009, he was arrested for unlawful surveillance after two women complained that he had attempted to look up their skirts using a mirror.

“We’ve had a real tragedy here,” New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio stated. “One doctor is dead and there are several more who are fighting for their lives right now.” De Blasio called the shooting an “isolated incident” and confirmed that it was not related to terrorism.
