The New York Times announced that a 30-second TV ad for the newspaper will air tonight (Sunday) during the 2017 Oscars. The commercial will be focused on the importance of the truth. The last time that the newspaper aired a TV ad was in 2010.

The commercial is part of the newspaper’s extensive campaign, which includes billboards and ads on social media platforms, to restore the public’s confidence in knowing the truth and acknowledge the fact that it is difficult today to determine what reports and statements are true due to the many lies and opinionated statements that make their way into news reports.

U.S. President Donald Trump took to Twitter this afternoon in order to criticize the newspaper: “For first time the failing @nytimes will take an ad (a bad one) to help save its failing reputation. Try reporting accurately & fairly!”
