News agencies around the world reported on Sunday morning that North Korea carried out another ballistic missile test. According to the reports, the missile successfully flew 700 kilometers (about 435 miles) for about 30 minutes before it landed in the Sea of Japan.

The missile was launched from the North Korean city of Kusong. The type of missile has not been identified yet. The U.S. Army confirmed that the launch was successful but the military spokesperson clarified that the missile tested was not a long-range missile.

South Korea and Japan condemned the launch shortly after it was carried out. The South Korean president, who was elected just last week, said during his first emergency national security meeting that the launch was a clear violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions. Japan strongly condemned the launch in a similar manner. The Japanese military stated that the missile reached an altitude of 2,000 kilometers (about 1,242 miles) before it landed in the sea.

Two weeks ago, North Korea carried out a missile test that failed. The missile exploded shortly after being launch. Following this launch, U.S. President Donald Trump took to Twitter in order to respond to the failed test: “North Korea disrespected the wishes of China & its highly respected President when it launched, though unsuccessfully, a missile today. Bad!”

Over the past few weeks, the tensions between Washington and Pyongyang have increased. U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called on the U.N. following the previous test to “impose increased diplomatic and economic pressures on the North Korean regime.”
