North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has proudly boasted that his country has reached nuclear statehood after the successful test of a new Hwasong-15 rocket on Tuesday. According to Pyongyang, the missile is capable of reaching anywhere in the world and can be fit with "a super heavy nuclear warhead". According to North Korea's state-run television network, the latest missile marks an unprecedented breakthrough in ballistic missile capability.

Experts in the West had hitherto questioned Pyongyang's ability to launch a ballistic missile that can leave and reenter the atmosphere safely and successfully and believed that the isolated country still had a few years to go before it would reach such advanced capabilities.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States and China have agreed to impose new sanctions on North Korea. “Just spoke to President XI JINPING of China concerning the latest provocative actions of North Korea,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “Additional major sanctions will be imposed on North Korea today. This situation will be handled!”

As reported earlier by JOL, North Korea conducted an intercontinental ballistic missile test on Tuesday- its first missile launch since September and its third and most advanced test yet.
