North Korea has dismissed reports claiming it had shipped Syria materials used in the manufacturing of chemical weapons. In a Thursday report citing the North Korean Research Institute of American studies, the regime insisted that it is against the use of chemical weapons.

“The US is in a frenzy to speak ill of the DPRK with its preposterous fabrication yet again,” read the report in North Korea’s state-run KCNA news agency. “As had been elucidated several times, the DPRK does not have a single record of developing, producing and stockpiling a chemical weapon, and it is opposed to chemical weapons themselves.”

As previously reported by JOL, various reports citing a confidential yet-to-be-released UN document claimed North Korea supplied Syria with 50 tons of materials that may be used for manufacturing chemical weapons, including acid-resistant tiles, valves and thermometers. 40 of such shipments were reportedly made between 2012 and 2017.
