North Korea moves fighter jets to east coast after American show of forceAfter Pyongyang threatened to down any American bombers that approach its coast, North Korea began reinforcing defenses along its east coast by moving fighter jets to the area. Recent satellite images show the jets in position.
North Korea started to reinforce defenses along its east coast Tuesday morning by transferring fighter jets to the area. On Saturday, American B-1B bombers flew near the reclusive state’s east coast.
According to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency, the US revealed the aircraft’s flight path intentionally and North Korea is preparing for another American show of force. However, the South Korean report has not been verified. Satellite images released by ImageSat International today show the jets along the coast.
Last night, Chinese Ambassador to the UN Liu Jieyi said that the escalating rhetoric between the US and North Korea is "too dangerous," adding that the situation can only be resolved through negotiations regarding Pyongyang’s nuclear program.
Liu responded to the remarks made earlier by North Korea's Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho, who told reporters that US President Donald Trump had declared war on his country and that Pyongyang would shoot down any American aircraft that approach the country. "We want things to calm down. It’s getting too dangerous and it’s in nobody’s interest," Jieyi told Reuters.
