NBC News reported on Friday that U.S. President Donald Trump is considering the options presented to him by the National Security Council on how to respond to Pyongyang’s nuclear program. According to the report, one of the options is placing American nukes in South Korea.

Another option is assassinating North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, according to several senior-level intelligence and military officials. However, the White House has not confirmed the report.

The U.S. removed its nukes from South Korea 25 years ago. A Washington decision to return them would be the first overseas nuclear deployment since the end of the Cold War, an unprecedented and provocative step.

According to the report, the White House hopes that China will help put diplomatic pressure on North Korea. However, the U.S. is prepared to make a move if necessary.
