A suspect was shot and eliminated today (Saturday) at the Paris Orly Airport after attempting to steal a gun from an airport soldier. The airport was evacuated and flights were rerouted to other airports in Paris. At first, it was suspected that this could have been an attempted terror attack against Israelis. However, the Israeli Foreign Affairs Ministry explained that the check-in counter for flights to Israel is relatively far from where the incident occurred.

According to the local Parisian police, the man was a “radicalized Muslim known to authorities” who was shot and eliminated by airport security forces in the airport’s southern area. Security sweeps were conducted throughout the airport facility in order to ensure that there were no additional suspects or bombs that could have been placed in the area. The initial investigation revealed that the suspect was in fact killed, but was holding a soldier hostage.

French police forces confirmed that the eliminated suspect was a fugitive that they had been chasing after since the morning and that no explosives were found on him. Earlier this morning, the suspect was stopped at a random nearby checkpoint and shot at three police officers, one of whom he injured.
