Pence promises at Knesset: “America will never allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon”While at the Knesset on Monday, US Vice President Mike Pence slammed the Iranian regime and its acts of aggression in the Middle East. He also made a promise to Israel: “The United States of America will never allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon.”
US Vice President Mike Pence dedicated one of the final parts of his historic speech at the Knesset on Monday to the topic of the Iranian nuclear deal. According to Pence, Washington is committed to preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear capabilities and will work with Israel to confront the Iranian threat and aggression in the region.
“The United States will continue to work with Israel and with nations across the world to confront the leading state sponsor of terrorism: the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Pence said, receiving a round of applause. “As the world has seen once again, the brutal regime in Iran is merely a dictatorship that seeks to dominate its citizens and deny them of their most fundamental rights. History has proven those who dominate their own people rarely stop there, and increasingly, we see Iran seeking to dominate the wider Arab world.”
“[Iran] has supported terrorist groups that even now sit on Israel’s doorstep,” he continued. “And worst of all, the Iranian regime has pursued a clandestine nuclear program and at this very hour is developing advanced ballistic missiles. Two and a half years ago, the previous administration in America signed a deal with Iran that merely delays the day when that regime could acquire a nuclear weapon.”
“The Iran nuclear deal is a disaster and the United States of America will no longer certify this ill-conceived agreement,” Pence stated, receiving another round of applause. “Unless the Iran nuclear deal is fixed, President Trump has said the United States will withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal immediately.”
The Trump admin will advance our plan to open our Embassy in Jerusalem & the Embassy will open before the end of next year. @POTUS made his decision “in the best interests of the U.S” but he also made it clear we believe this decision is in the best interests of peace #VPinIsrael pic.twitter.com/YlyuqjYt2v— Vice President Mike Pence (@VP) January 22, 2018
“Whatever the outcomes of those negotiations, today, I have a solemn promise to Israel, to all the Middle East and to the world: The United States of America will never allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon,” he added, receiving yet another round of applause. He then issued a message to the Iranian people, telling them that the American people are their friends. “The day is coming when you will be free from the evil regime that suffocates your dreams and buries your hopes,” he stated.
Earlier in his speech, Pence called Israel a “vibrant democracy” and promised that the American embassy will be moved to Jerusalem by the end of 2019. At the beginning of Pence’s address, Jewish Joint Arab List MKs tried to disrupt him by holding up posters with a picture of Jerusalem and a message in Arabic and English: “Jerusalem is The capital of Palestine.” The Arab MKs were immediately removed from the plenum and banned from the Knesset for the remainder of the day.
