Today (Saturday), official sources confirmed that at least 133 people were killed and dozens are considered missing after a tropical storm hit the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. Emergency forces are operating in the area.

The storm, which triggered destructive mudslides and floods, is expected to pass on Monday. Meanwhile, electricity and communication lines in the region were cut off. According to unconfirmed reports, an entire farming village was buried by a mudslide.

The Philippines gets hit by an average of 20 powerful storms each year, many of which are deadly. However, Mindanao, the second largest island in the country with over 21 million citizens, has almost never suffered from the natural disaster. Last week, 46 people were killed after a typhoon hit the country.
