After comparing himself yesterday (Friday) to Adolf Hitler and saying that he would be glad to exterminate all of the drug addicts, Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte clarified that his reference to the Holocaust was taken out of context and that no comparison can be made between him and Hitler.

His spokesman quickly published the clarification after the world was enraged by Duterte’s comments. “The phrasing is terrible but we are confident the Philippines’ President will find the opportunity to clarify his remarks," the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded.

71-year-old Duterte said yesterday that he would “be happy to slaughter” 3 million drug addicts as part of his war on drugs. He added that critics had called him “a cousin of Hitler.”

“If Germany had Hitler, the Philippines would have [me]," he said, pointing at himself.
