Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday his country has developed new, "invincible" cruise missiles that have unlimited range and are capable of evading interception.

In his annual address to both houses of his parliament, Putin used computer animation and videos to boast about Russia's military strength. He added that nuclear-capable weapons currently under development will render the US missile defense system "completely useless."

Putin added that these weapons are a direct response to the US' withdrawal from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty. "I want to tell all those who have fueled the arms race over the last 15 years ... you have failed to contain Russia," he said to ecstatic applause from the audience.

Putin stressed that Russia does not intend to attack any country and that its military power is "meant to maintain world peace," but added that any attack on a Russian ally will be met with an immediate response.
