Report: Trump demanded Comey’s loyalty, was rejectedAccording to The New York Times, US President Donald Trump met with former FBI Director James Comey only several days after being sworn in as president. During the conversation, Trump demanded Comey’s loyalty, who agreed only to honesty.
Yesterday (Thursday), after US President Donald Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, The New York Times reported that Comey refused to promise Trump his loyalty, but told the president that he would be “honest” with him.
According to the report, based on two of Comey’s associates, the two met for dinner only seven days after Trump was sworn in. Initially, they discussed Trump’s election campaign before the latter began discussing the question of loyalty.

Comey then said that he will be honest but couldn’t promise to be loyal in the political sense of the word. Trump then pressed for “honest loyalty”, to which Comey gave in. Principal Deputy White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders denied the accusations. “We don’t believe this to be an accurate account,” she said. “The integrity of our law enforcement agencies and their leadership is of the utmost importance to President Trump. He would never even suggest the expectation of personal loyalty, only loyalty to our country and its great people.”
In an interview with NBC news, Trump said that he was planning to fire Comey regardless of the Justice Department's recommendation.
