About a month after Samsung announced an official recall for the Galaxy Note 7, the company decided this morning (Monday) to temporarily halt the production of the smartphone, according to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency. The report has not yet been confirmed by the technology giant.

According to the report, the decision was made in cooperation with the Chinese and American safety regulators. An anonymous source said that the company decided to halt the production due to the extensive public criticism and the fear that more safety related incident would occur.

So far, dozens of reports in the US about Note 7 batteries catching fire have been called in. In 26 cases, people sustained burns after their smartphones caught fire.
