Report: Trump paid hush money to porn star to keep silent about alleged affair

US President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer has denied that he paid $130,000 to an adult film star to buy her silence regarding an affair Trump had with her in 2006. The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that Trump had an affair with the porn star just a year after he married Melania.

US President Donald Trump’s lawyer paid a porn star to keep quiet about an affair his client had with her about a year after he married Melania, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday, citing people with knowledge about the matter. According to the report, the six-figure payment was made about a month before the 2016 presidential election.

Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen reportedly paid Stephanie Clifford, whose stage name is “Stormy Daniels,” $130,000 in exchange for her silence regarding the alleged encounter she had with Trump in 2006 after a celebrity golf tournament.

A White House official denied the report in a statement: “These are old, recycled reports, which were published and strongly denied prior to the election.” Cohen also denied the allegations in a statement to CNN, saying that these stories have been circulating for some years and that his client “once again vehemently denies any such occurrence as has Ms. Daniels.”

Daniels said that the rumors are “completely false” in a statement that was signed by her and released by Cohen. “My involvement with Donald Trump was limited to a few public appearances and nothing more,” she wrote in the statement. “When I met Donald Trump, he was gracious, professional and a complete gentleman to me and EVERYONE in my presence. Rumors that I have received hush money from Donald Trump are completely false. If indeed I did have a relationship with Donald Trump, trust me, you wouldn't be reading about in the news, you would be reading about it in my book. But the fact of the matter is, these stories are not true.”
