Reports claim Ronaldo participated in financially silencing his accuserAlthough he denied the reports published two weeks ago, documents show that one of the world's greatest soccer players, Cristiano Ronaldo, who allegedly raped a woman in 2009, participated in negotiations to settle the matter for 260,000 euros.
Two weeks ago, claims that soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo raped a woman in 2009 and paid her for her silence were reported. The Real Madrid soccer star denied the allegations but now German news site Der Spiegel claims to be in possession of the documents proving that Ronaldo knew about the arrangement with his accuser and even participated in the negotiations over the amount to be paid.
The incident reportedly took place in Las Vegas after which a settlement was reached and signed between the woman and Ronaldo at a law firm in Portugal in 2010. According to Der Spiegel’s reports, Ronaldo and his lawyer Osorio de Castro, corresponded during the negotiations. Documentation shows Ronaldo sent his attorney a message requesting details on the financial settlement sum. Osorio de Castro replies “$950,000” adding "That is the first demand: That's 660,000 euros. We won't accept it. The negotiations are continuing."
In a follow-up message Ronaldo asks his attorney, "Is that too much?" to which he replies, "I think so, I think we can close it down for less." Ronaldo then sends a message again and writes, "It must be less," and his lawyer replies "Ok.” The messages end with Ronaldo’s lawyer writing, “We are finally finalizing this after 12 hours for 260,000 euros. I know that is a lot of money, but I think it was the best way out -- and it also wasn't easy to get at all."
