Today (Thursday), Liliane Bettencourt, the heiress of L’Oreal and the world’s richest woman, died at the age of 94. According to Forbes, Bettencourt was the 13th richest person in the world and her net worth was estimated at approximately 44.7 billion dollars.

“We all had a great admiration for Liliane Bettencourt, who always looked after L’Oreal, the company and its employees and was very attached to its success and development,” stated chairman and CEO of L’Oreal Jean-Paul Agon. “She has personally contributed greatly to its success for many years.”

Over the past years, Bettencourt was involved in a number of court battles. The first and worst case involved her financial manager, who was accused of transferring cash envelopes to members of the party of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy during his election campaign. Even Sarkozy himself was a suspect in the affair, although all charges against him were dropped in 2013. In 2015, 8 people were found guilty of taking advantage of the billionaire’s mental state.
