The Russian Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday that it is “highly likely” that ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was eliminated in airstrikes carried out by the Russian Air Force earlier this week.

On Friday, Russia’s Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu claimed that Russian pilots may have succeeded in eliminating al-Baghdadi. According to Shoygu, the Russians successfully targeted a meeting of ISIS leaders in the terrorist organization’s de facto capital of Raqqa, Syria, last month.
