Advanced Iranian air-defense system targeted in attack on T4 airbaseLast week’s attack on the T4 airbase in Syria was designed to destroy an advanced Iranian air-defense system that threatened the Israeli Air Force’s superiority in the region, the Wall Street Journal has reported. The American newspaper added that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed US President Donald Trump of the attack before it was carried out.
The target of the recent attack on Syria’s T4 airbase, which has been attributed to Israel by foreign media outlets, was an advanced air-defense system transferred by the Revolutionary Guards to the base, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday.
Moreover, it was reported that prior to the attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with US President Donald Trump and Israeli officials informed their American counterparts about the planned attack.
As reported earlier this week by JOL, during a conversation with New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman, an Israeli defense official reportedly admitted that this was the first time Israel attacked “live Iranian targets—both facilities and people.” Regarding the Iranian drone loaded with explosives that infiltrated Israeli airspace two months ago, the official said that this was the first time they saw Iran taking measures against Israel directly, without using a proxy.
Amid the growing tensions between Israel and Iran, the latter held its annual military march, showcasing the Revolutionary Guards’ weaponry, with thousands of soldiers taking part in the event. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani spoke during the march, stating that Iran is only producing and purchasing weapons for defensive use. “We will not wait for the world’s approval to purchase the means we need for our defense,” he said. “Our forces are not a threat to neighboring countries.”
