Theresa May leaves headscarf behind while meeting with Saudi officialsBritish Prime Minister Theresa May landed in Saudi Arabia this week and met with senior level Saudi officials, including Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz, without wearing a headscarf, rejecting the British government’s guidelines.
Earlier this week, British Prime Minister Theresa May flew to Saudi Arabia in order to strengthen her country’s ties with the Arab country. Even though the British government’s guidelines clearly advise female British officials to respect the local dress code for women by wearing a headscarf, May got off the plane with her hair showing.
According to The Telegraph, the British Foreign Office guidelines state: “Women should wear conservative, loose-fitting clothes as well as a full length cloak (abaya) and a headscarf.” However, May chose to follow in the footsteps Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama and former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who have all visited the country and met with senior level officials without wearing a headscarf.
