“The recent attacks are not connected,” announced British Prime Minister Theresa May on Sunday morning, hours after the deadly terror attack in London, which claimed the lives of seven people. Earlier today, May announced the suspension of her campaign due to the terror attack.
While May said that the Manchester terror attack and the attacks at two popular London sites last night were not related, she noted that they are connected by the same ideology that rejects Western values. May added that the Internet is the place where this ideology thrives. The British prime minister said that terrorism “cannot be defeated through military intervention alone” and revealed that the authorities thwarted five terror attacks recently.

“It is time to say enough is enough,” she continued. “Everybody needs to go about their lives as they normally would. Our society should continue to function in accordance with our values but when it comes to taking on extremism and terrorism things need to change. As a mark of respect, the two political parties have suspended our national campaigns for today but violence can never be allowed to disrupt the democratic process.”
“There are no words to describe the grief and anger that our city is feeling this morning," said London Mayor Sadiq Khan in a statement on Sunday morning prior to May’s speech. "I am appalled and furious that these twisted and cowardly terrorists deliberately targeted innocent Londoners and visitors to our city who were just enjoying their Saturday night.”
