Tillerson clarifies Washington’s diplomatic efforts regarding North Korea crisis continueAfter US President Donald Trump responded to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s rare televised remarks, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson clarified that Washington is still working via diplomatic channels to resolve the crisis with North Korea. A few hours ago, Trump wrote on Twitter that Kim “will be tested like never before!”
US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson clarified Friday that despite the escalating war of words between Washington and Pyongyang, his country’s “diplomatic efforts continue unabated.”
During an interview with ABC News anchor David Muir, Tillerson said that Washington has “put in place the strongest economic sanctions ever to have been assembled” against North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, whom US President Donald Trump recently started calling “Rocket Man.”
Yesterday, Kim called the US president a “mentally deranged US dotard” and his UN General Assembly address the “most ferocious declaration of war in history.” Kim also said that he will make the US “pay dearly” for threatening his country.
In response, Trump took to Twitter, writing: “Kim Jong Un of North Korea, who is obviously a madman who doesn't mind starving or killing his people, will be tested like never before!”
“The president obviously takes the responsibility of the security of the American people very seriously,” Tillerson said during the interview. “But we’re not in this alone. We have developed strong allies and strong alliances internationally.”
