Shocking meeting between Russian president and US Secretary of StateAfter finishing his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson went for a surprise visit to the Kremlin in order to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin, despite the growing diplomatic tensions between the super powers. Earlier today during Tillerson and Lavrov’s meeting, Lavrov scolded his American counterpart.
As tensions between Washington and Moscow rise following the US airstrike on a Syrian Air Force base last week, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson arrived in Moscow this evening (Wednesday) for a delicate meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. However, despite earlier warnings, Tillerson drove to the Kremlin immediately after his meeting ended for a surprise meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Earlier today during their meeting, Lavrov scolded Tillerson saying that the missile strike on Syrian territory was a “violation of the law.” An aggressive letter from the Kremlin claimed that “all calls to end the relationship with Assad give terrorists a free hand.”
Furthermore, Lavrov told Tillerson that the Kremlin’s stance is not to allow for further US missile strikes on Syrian territory, asserting that there is a need to create a large coalition against terrorism.
