US: Truck drove into crowd during Mardi Gras parade, 28 injured

A drunk truck driver drove into a crowd that was participating in the Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans and injured 28 people. Local police discarded the possibility that it was a terrorist act. The driver was brought in for questioning.

Today (Sunday), a truck driver drove into a crowd that was participating in the Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans and injured 28 people. The possibility that it was a terrorist act was discarded.

According to local police, the driver also hit 3 vehicles before deviating to the center of the crowd. 21 of those injured were evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment, 5 of whom were brought to a trauma center.

Immediately after the accident, the police arrested the driver who seemed confused and under the influence. New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu responded to the incident.

Police Chief Michael Harrison stated that the suspect was ‘highly intoxicated’ and brought in for questioning.
