US President Donald Trump responded in a series of tweets to the deadly terror attack in Manhattan on Tuesday, saying that he has instructed the Department of Homeland Security “to step up our already Extreme Vetting Program.” In the pickup truck-ramming attack, eight people were murdered and 11 others were injured. Trump added that the attack was carried out “by a very sick and deranged person.”

Trump also commented on the attack being attributed to ISIS. As reported by JOL earlier today, a senior NYPD officer told CNN that a note written in English was discovered in the pickup truck and that it claimed that the attack was carried out in the name of the murderous terrorist organization. “We must not allow ISIS to return, or enter, our country after defeating them in the Middle East and elsewhere. Enough!” Trump wrote.

“My thoughts, condolences and prayers to the victims and families of the New York City terrorist attack,” Trump added. “God and your country are with you!”

“This is a very painful day in our city,” New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio stated after the attack. “Based on the information we have at this moment, this was an act of terror, and a particularly cowardly act of terror aimed at innocent civilians…who had no idea what was about to hit them.”

Sources involved in the investigation into the terror attack have announced that Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, a 29-year-old Uzbek national, was identified as the terrorist. Saipov drove the rental pickup truck on a popular bike path, striking pedestrians and cyclists, before crashing into a school bus. Saipov moved to the US in 2010 and lived in several states over the past few years.
