Following the embarrassing video from the White House meeting between US President Donald Trump and German Chancellor Angela Merkel where Trump refuses to shake Merkel’s hand, Trump took to Twitter today (Saturday) in order to make some clarifications about the meeting. “Despite what you have heard from the FAKE NEWS, I had a GREAT meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel,” wrote Trump.

In an additional tweet following his meeting with Merkel, Trump wrote that Germany owes “vast sums of money” to NATO and that the US “must be paid more for the powerful and very expensive defense it provides to Germany.”

The first meeting between Trump and Merkel yesterday in Washington was a bit embarrassing. During a press conference held by the two leaders, Trump joked about his argument that the Obama administration wiretapped him during the election. “As far as wiretapping, I guess, by this past administration, at least we have something in common perhaps,” Trump said slyly, referring to the 2015 publication which states that the NSA under the Obama administration wiretapped Merkel’s phone conversations.
