U.S. President Donald Trump responded today (Wednesday) for the first time to the political storm in America that erupted following his sudden decision to fire FBI Director James Comey. In a series of tweets, Trump addressed the criticism voiced by Democratic senators: “The Democrats have said some of the worst things about James Comey, including the fact that he should be fired, but now they play so sad!”

Trump added: “James Comey will be replaced by someone who will do a far better job, bringing back the spirit and prestige of the FBI.” However, Trump did not mention who exactly will replace Comey. “Comey lost the confidence of almost everyone in Washington, Republican and Democrat alike,” another tweet read. “When things calm down, they will be thanking me!” Trump also retweeted a tweet uploaded by The Drudge Report that features a link to a news report about the “10 SCANDALS ON DIRECTOR'S WATCH.”

Meanwhile, Moscow stated that it had nothing to do with the decision to fire Comey. “We hope that this development will not influence the relations between the United States and Russia,” said the Kremlin spokesperson.
