Last night (Tuesday), U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order that seriously changes the government’s approach toward climate change. The executive order explicitly places American jobs above the battle to curb climate change, which his predecessor considered a top priority.

During his presidency, former U.S. President Barack Obama enacted several measures regarding global warming and global sea level rise. While signing the executive order, Trump said that his approach “will start a new era of production and job creation.”

A White House official said that the government believes that it can “serve the environment and increase energy independence at the same time.” The official added that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency should focus on clean air and clean water.

The current executive order nullifies six executive orders that Obama signed. The White House official stated that the best way to protect the environment is to promote a strong economy. He mentioned that countries such as India and China do less to protect the environment than America.
