US President Donald Trump reportedly made insensitive remarks about immigrants during a June meeting in the Oval Office, according to a report published by the New York Times on Saturday. Among the remarks, Trump was quoted saying that people arriving from Haiti “all have AIDS,” and that Nigerian immigrants “would never go back to their huts,” in Africa.
The report stated that the comments were made during an immigration policy meeting in the Oval Office attended by State Secretary Rex Tillerson, former Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly and several other Washington officials. The White House has denied the accusations. In an official statement, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders, said: "General Kelly, General McMaster, Secretary Tillerson, Secretary Nielsen and all other senior staff actually in the meeting deny these outrageous claims and it's both sad and telling the New York Times would print the lies of their anonymous 'sources' anyway.”
The New York Times said its report was a product of over 30 interviews. It also claimed the information was provided by two official White House sources, one of whom was present in the room and the other was briefed about the comments after the meeting.
