According to the New York Times, US President Donald Trump’s son agreed to meet with a Kremlin-associated lawyer during the 2016 presidential election after being promised embarrassing information about Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. According to the report, Donald Trump Jr. said that the information was unreliable. “The president was not aware of and did not attend the meeting,” stated a spokesperson for Trump’s lawyer.

Three White House advisers claimed that other than Trump’s son, the president’s campaign manager Paul Manafort and son-in-law Jared Kushner were also present at the meeting.

“After pleasantries were exchanged,” Trump Jr. said. “The woman (lawyer) stated that she had information that individuals connected to Russia were funding the Democratic National Committee and supporting Mrs. Clinton. Her statements were vague, ambiguous and made no sense. No details or supporting information was provided or even offered. It quickly became clear that she had no meaningful information.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin recently denied Russia’s involvement in the US presidential election. Following the G20 Summit in Germany, Trump even announced that he had finalized with Putin the opening of a joint cyber security unit that would secure future election campaigns.
