On Tuesday morning, US President Donald Trump tweeted once again about the violent anti-regime protests in Iran. Trump first commented on the protests on Saturday, saying that the Iranian people are fed up with the regime’s corruption.

“The people of Iran are finally acting against the brutal and corrupt Iranian regime,” he wrote on Twitter today. “All of the money that President Obama so foolishly gave them went into terrorism and into their ‘pockets.’ The people have little food, big inflation and no human rights. The U.S. is watching!”

Trump’s latest tweet about the chaos in Iran was uploaded shortly after Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei commented for the first time on the protests. According to his official website, Khamenei blamed “enemies” for destabilizing the country, joining Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s accusations against the US, Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Khamenei said that the “enemy media” has exaggerated the turnout of the protests in the country, calling the reports “hollow and a lie.” He then added that the global media has been predicting the collapse of the Islamic republic for 40 years but nevertheless, the nation continues its “pure existence.”
