In yet another reversal, Trump tweets that US-NK summit may be back on'We are having very productive talks with North Korea about reinstating the summit,' Trump tweeted just two days after cancelling it.
Just two days after cancelling a much-anticipated summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, US President Donald Trump tweeted on Saturday that the summit may still happen.
"We are having very productive talks with North Korea about reinstating the summit," Trump tweeted, adding that the original date set for it, June 12, is the most likely option. "...if necessary, (it) will be extended beyond that date."
We are having very productive talks with North Korea about reinstating the Summit which, if it does happen, will likely remain in Singapore on the same date, June 12th., and, if necessary, will be extended beyond that date.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 26, 2018
On Friday, when asked by reporters at the White House about the fate of the summit, Trump replied, "We'll see what happens. ... We’re talking to them now. They very much want to do it. We’d like to do it."
US officials were quoted on Axios this week as saying that Trump's decision to cancel the summit had put the US at a heightened risk of war with North Korea.
