Russia expels 60 US diplomats in tit-for-tat move
Trump says US troops will withdraw from Syria 'like very soon'Speaking at a rally in Ohio on Thursday, the president said the US Army will be withdrawing from Syria imminently after taking over all of the territories that once belonged to ISIS.
US President Donald Trump suggested on Thursday that US troops will be withdrawing from Syria in the near future.
Speaking at a rally in Ohio, Trump praised the US-led coalition for "knocking the hell out of ISIS" and added, "We'll be coming out of Syria like very soon. Let the other people take care of it now."
"We're going to have 100% of the caliphate, as they call it – sometimes referred to as 'land,'" Trump continued. "But we're going to be coming out of there real soon. Going to get back to our country, where we belong, where we want to be."
However, State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert said she is unaware of any decision by the administration to pull out of Syria.
In January, former US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said a total US withdrawal from Syria "would restore Assad and continue his brutal treatment against his own people." Tillerson has since been fired and replaced by Mike Pompeo, the former CIA Director who is widely viewed as loyal to Trump.
