U.S. President Donald Trump stated yesterday evening (Thursday) that he wants to expand America’s nuclear arsenal in order to ensure that it is “top of the pack.” According to Trump, other countries have stronger nuclear capabilities than the U.S.

In an interview with Reuters, Trump criticized Russia for deploying a ground-based cruise missile, stating that Moscow violated a 1987 Russian-American treaty. He added that he would discuss this matter with his Russian counterpart if the two of them meet.

This was the first time Trump commented on his country’s nuclear capabilities since he entered the White House. “We’re never going to fall behind any country even if it’s a friendly country,” he said. “It would be wonderful, a dream would be that no country would have nukes but if countries are going to have nukes, we’re going to be at the top of the pack.”

Trump also mentioned China and its security concerns about North Korea during the interview. Trump claimed that China can put an end to the security issue “very quickly.” Trump also stated that he is very concerned about North Korea’s ballistic missile tests and said that Japan and South Korea should be armed with missile defense systems.
