Trump will stop running his businesses due to conflicts of interest

President-elect Donald Trump tweeted that he will no longer be running his businesses because the “The Presidency is a far more important task.” Trump, who does business in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Scotland and other countries tweeted that he will do this to avoid conflicts of interest.

Today (Wednesday), President-elect Donald Trump announced that he will stop running his businesses to avoid any possible conflicts of interest when he will enter the White House this coming January.

“While I am not mandated do this under the law,” Trump wrote on his Twitter account, “I feel it is visually important, as President, to in no way have a conflict of interest with my various businesses.”

“The Presidency is a far more important task,” he continued. Trump promised to hold a “major news conference” on December 15 to discuss the future of his businesses.

Trump is the owner or holds an executive position in approximately 500 companies. According to CNN, 150 of these are spread throughout foreign countries such as Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
